Elkington and Co. invented electroplating in 1838.

20 years later, they designed and made this extraordinary claret jug.

The silver plate mount is intricately designed throughout and maintains its high level of detail, including the Bacchus theme evident across the entire mount as well as the majestic lion rampant finial. The handle and neck complete the premium level of craftsmanship of the piece.

The etched glass has a lavish leaf motif that covers the entire vessel.

This exquisite claret jug is 161 years old yet is in absolutely perfect condition without any wear to the plate and no chips, scratches or nibbles to the glass.

A truly special piece of history.
