Impressive Victorian Claret Jug with Lion Rampant and Bacchus Mount

Impressive Victorian Claret Jug with Lion Rampant and Bacchus Mount

€250.00

This is an elaborately decorated silver plate and cut glass claret jug.

Made in the mid-Victorian era, the mount is one of the most striking I have seen in recent times. The column shaped handle that cradles the glass has the strength to lift the jug with confidence.

Sitting proudly on the top of this plinth is a majestic lion rampant. He looks to the jug's finial that has been crafted as a jewelled royal crown.

The engraved mount, with two blank cartouches, is finished with a very well made Bacchus spout. In many cases, Bacchus' face is a blur - in this case, it is most definitely not.

I cannot talk about the jug's beauty without mentioning the expertly cut glass. Sparkling in sunlight or candlelight, the glass is something to behold.

A gorgeous example of an antique claret jug that you are sure to love.
