Etched Glass Victorian Claret Jug

Etched Glass Victorian Claret Jug

€100.00

This is a delightful Victorian claret jug made by Thomas Wilkinson and Sons.

The antique glass has been hand etched with an elegant skirt style design. Around the neck, a trefoil design tops and tail parallel lines that surround the entire item.

The silver plate mount is well made and includes a lovely handle with a leaf motif. The plating has lost some of its brightness over the last 150 years but is still a very attractive colour. The lid is removed with a twist mechanism rather than the normal hinged mechanism. A ball sits inside the spout to help aerate the wine.

Please note, this piece is in great condition with no dents to the metal or chips to the glass. However, there is a very fine scratch that runs horizontally for about 5 cms in the middle of the jug. We have endeavoured to show it in the photos, but it is impossible to pick up with the camera. It is not easy to see in real life, but we must mention it here for description transparency.

A really lovely example of a mid-Victorian antique claret jug
