Exquisite Victorian Silver Plate Claret Jug

Exquisite Victorian Silver Plate Claret Jug

€200.00

This is a very impressive and rare Victorian claret jug.

Special in so many ways, the jug is presented to you in excellent condition.

The cut glass of this square and tapering jug is in a deep lattice design that catches the light beautifully. It is without any chips, scratches or milking.

The silver plate finial is where this jug really shines. The square mount has been elaborately engraved to all sides and the lid. There are two blank cartouches on either side. The spout is designed in the Bacchus or Dionysus style - often seen - but rarely with such real-life detail as this. Finally, the imposing handle, with its architectural shape, includes a mythical beast embedded into the top - perhaps to protect that contents within!

An absolutely first class example of a Victorian claret jug.
