Rare Early Victorian Silver Plate Biscuit Barrel

Rare Early Victorian Silver Plate Biscuit Barrel

€495.00

This is an extraordinary antique biscuit barrel made by Philip Ashberry in c. 1850.

In silver plate, the biscuit barrel enjoys so many unique features.

Firstly, the tapered shape of the piece lends itself perfectly to the elaborate engraving that is found to all sides. A combination of floral motifs, celebratory garlands and large regal cartouches cover the piece.

The first class design continues to either side with the two hoop handles being held in place by two mythical goat-like beasts. Time has certainly been taken to ensure the intricate detail to each face and horns is perfect.

Finally, we have a strong yet elegant lion rampant standing with pride, acting as finial to the special item.

Internally, the barrel is in wonderful condition and could be put into use immediately if you so desired.

For any collector, this one is a must.
